"The" and its forms in Italian
If you've ever learnt Italian as a course in school or using apps like Duolingo, you must have come across the various words that replace the word "The" in different contexts. In this article I'll try to consolidate all these different variations so that you may use it as a cheat-sheet or a refresher of sorts...
Based on the gender of the noun we use different forms. For example :-
- La donna (The woman)
- L'uomo (The man)
- Il pane (The bread)
Based on whether the noun is singular or plural.
- Le donne (The women)
- Gli uomini (The men)
- I pani (The bread loaves)
